THE CHOCOLATE:

Sakura season in Japan truly is one of the world's most breathtaking spectacles, drawing in millions of visitors from around the globe. Inspired, we wanted to create a bar that captures the essence of this moment. Something beautiful, gentle and complex – Sakura blossom and raspberry.

HISTORY:

Sakura, also known as Japanese Cherry Blossom, is a seasonally occurring phenomenon rooted deeply in Japanese culture. Historically, the fleeting beauty of the blossoms have been viewed as a metaphor for the Samurai’s short, glorious lives. In modern times, they have become a powerful symbol of Japan and its people, and the Sakura season brings droves of tourists each year from all over the world.

With the season running from late March until early May in Japan, the Sakura trees transform the country into a beautiful soft pink colour. The blossoms can be harvested, and sometimes even the flower petals for various applications in food. Traditionally they were used in salt pickles and mochi, but now the most common use is in powder form to make a beautiful floral tea.

Sakura has a special place in Johnty’s heart, featuring heavily throughout his artwork at high school after a month long stay with his international friend in Japan at the age of 14. To him the Sakura is the symbol of Japan, and to finally be able to work with it is a real honour, and a way to pay homage to one of his favourite, most inspiring countries.
